This body of works stems from my experiences of art-therapy workshops at mental health hospitals that my dad used to run. This is how I became sensitive and interested in the people I met there. They withdraw into themselves becoming absent to others, ghosts locked in their own world and existence. My work revolves around the ideas of solitude and isolation, the presence and absence of someone over time and the residue or stain that our presence as humans leaves behind. I try to my paintings to carry a kind of history. The painting changes continuously and the figure I’m painting keeps evolving until I find the right moment to stop: the perfect balance between abstract and figurative or presence and absence of the figure itself.
